Open from 6am to 9pm everyday, Nelda's offers full service casual dining, reasonable prices, and a menu unmatched in uniqueness and variety. Just the eighteen burgers and over 100 named milkshakes make a visit to Nelda's a must for any trip to the Kern River Valley. In addition, breakfast is served all day. Some favorite items? For breakfast, the Eggs Benedict, Bigfoot Burritos, Chicken Fried Steak and real Corned Beef Hash are standouts! At lunch, a wide variety of hot and cold sandwiches are available, including a Reuben, Pastrami Melt, French (or Pastrami) Dip, plus all the burgers. Favorite burgers are Ringleader, Haystack and Flamer (caution: HOT!). For dinner, all entrees are complete meals with soup or salad, entree, potatoes or rice, vegetable, bread and dessert. You don't see that very often! The Ribeye Steak is a great deal and comes with sauteed mushrooms at no extra charge. Fried Chicken, Halibut Steak, Fried or Charbroiled Shrimp and many other items are available. Of course, everything on the menu is always available. Senior portions, kid's menu, handicap access, and a friendly staff make Nelda's Diner one of the treasures of the Kern Valley.
People constantly ask me why our burgers are so much better than everybody else's - Here's the answer! Like almost everything else at Nelda's, we use top quality ingredients. Our patties are 100% ground Angus CHUCK. Regular ground beef just doesn't cut it (remember parts is parts?). Also, our patties are 1/3 pound - that's about 5.3 ounces. A quarter pound burger is 4 ounces, so you get over 25% more MEAT at Nelda's. Add in all the different varieties, and it's no wonder our burgers are the best! Finally! I've had some time to put in the Breakfast Menu. I know everybody's waiting for the Milkshakes so they can show their friends in Kansas, or Paris, or Beijing, or Walker Basin, but these things take time-Don't worry! I'm on it! For your enjoyment, here is a photo submitted by Rod Kane of Bakersfield, CA. When I first received it, i didn't notice that it is a Double!
